Matt Hurst proudly serves as the Principal of Elberta Elementary School. Originally from LaFayette, Alabama, he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Auburn University before beginning his career in education.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hurst has served students and families across Baldwin County as a teacher at Elberta Middle School and Elberta High School, and later as Assistant Principal at Mathis Elementary School in Foley. These experiences have strengthened his commitment to creating engaging learning environments where every child can succeed.
Mr. Hurst believes that every student has the ability to achieve success when provided with high expectations, meaningful support, and engaging instruction. He is passionate about cooperative learning, data-driven decision making, and building a positive school culture where students and teachers thrive. He also believes that strong schools are the foundation of strong communities and is committed to partnering with families and community members to help every Warrior reach their full potential.
Outside of school, Mr. Hurst enjoys spending time with his family and serving the local community. He is honored to lead Elberta Elementary and looks forward to continuing the school's tradition of excellence while preparing students for bright futures.
It is an honor to serve as one of the Assistant Principals at Elberta Elementary. My journey in education began at Wichita State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, I earned my Instructional Leadership Certification from the University of West Alabama.
With more than 15 years of experience in elementary education, I have had the privilege of serving students and families as a classroom teacher in both Kansas and at Florence B. Mathis Elementary here in Baldwin County. Following my years in the classroom, I stepped into school leadership as an Assistant Principal at Elberta Elementary. It has been a truly rewarding experience, allowing me to build relationships with students, staff, and families while supporting the success of our school community.Throughout my career, the focus has remained on creating a structured, student-centered learning environment that promotes academic achievement, builds meaningful relationships, and supports the development of the whole child.
Outside of education, family is one of my greatest joys. As a proud mother, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching basketball, playing volleyball, gardening, reading, and relaxing at the beach.
